Overview

A rugged Atlantic island with grass, stone walls and a ruined farmhouse — the kind of property that appeals to a buyer who wants restoration rather than construction, and who is not looking for a swimming-pool climate.

Access

A causeway is passable on foot and by small vehicle at low tide. At other states the crossing is by boat from a nearby pier. Winter weather can limit the crossing for several days at a time, which is the single most important practical fact about the island.

Buildings and infrastructure

  • Stone farmhouse ruins, structurally assessable only by a surveyor
  • Former power and water connections to the ruin, not currently live
  • No mains services on the island
  • Fencing and a small stone pier

Ownership and constraints

Freehold title with defined boundaries. Any rebuild will need planning permission, and coastal and environmental designations may apply — a buyer must check with the local authority before assuming the ruin can be restored as it stands. Access rights over the causeway and the foreshore should be confirmed by an Irish solicitor.

Our view

This is not a resort island and should not be marketed as one. It is a restoration project with genuine character, priced accordingly, and it will suit someone who values remoteness over convenience.
